Our final plant fair of the year will be, as always, at the iconic Newburgh Priory nestling in the Howardian Hills and overlooked by the White Horse at Kilburn. Come along and enjoy a wonderful day out, buying plants, enjoying views, indulging in some delicious cakes and meeting all the regular plant specialists. As they say in Yorkshire, a Grand Day Out!
So who will be joining us?

A & A Plants All the way from Cheshire, but bringing a mouth watering collection of quality plants. Terry and Ann have been in the horticultural business all their lives and have collections of over 82 genera and approximately 230 varieties of perennials during the season! A great selection of plants for you to choose from.
Alfresco Design One of the favourites for everyone who loves making their gardens look different. Luke brings a wide selection of “rusty metal”, from plant supports to obelisks, bird baths to sculptures. Be sure to collect your items early as he’s always busy.
D K Plants Dave Knox is one of those special plantsmen. He grows all his own plants in a private nursery in Cheadle, Staffordshire, and what he doesn’t know about plants is nobody’s business. He’s been there, got the tee shirt, and still brings quality plants to all the fairs he attends. Check out his wonderful collection.
Dark Star Plants Anyone who lives in North Yorkshire knows the lovely Jenny. She and her husband, Shaun, have created their own paradise in what was an overgrown and forgotten Walled Garden at East Rounton, near Northallerton. From this “secret garden” they have created two acres of loveliness. Jenny specialises in dark foliage plants with complimentary colours to highlight her plants. Always a wonderful stand to visit.
Fayrefield Plants and Horticultural Design Tracey joined the fairs many years ago and continues to charm us all with her lovely stand, offering unusual annual plants, delicate perennials and of course, her amazing willow woven dragon flies. Always an interesting stand. Linger for a while to really appreciate what she is selling – you won’t be disappointed.
Freckles & Flora Henrietta has taken to the plant fairs with a storm. What a collection of unusual plants she has, and of course, most are never found in retail outlets. She’s an amazing plants lady and you must go and see what delights she’s brought with her this August.
Gardening with Wildlife What can I say about Matthew and Fran? Always looking to create new things from Matthew’s amazing inventive brain. He’s working on plant silhouettes to enhance the lovely heart shaped tea light holders he makes. All his products are “hand made”, either by himself or his lovely lady and wife, Fran. Hedgehog homes, bird boxes, bug hotels, etc. He has it all.
Giddy Kippers My friends from Lincolnshire. Wow, they have grown and changed their plant base over the years. The lovely Joanna is passionate about cut flowers and extravagant summer perennials so be prepared for anything! They also grow vegetable plants too and wonderful cottage garden plants. Joanna is sometimes known as The Gatherer Florist so follow them on Facebook.
Herb Nursery Chrissie travels all the way from Rutland to attend our fairs and her stand is always choc-full of “gorgeousness”. Herbs, all shapes and sizes, medicinal and culinary, cottage garden treasures and some really rather special pelargoniums.
Moira Craig Moira is an amazing lady, she creates original art and cards from plants. She will be inside the Entrance hall to the cafe (and toilets). She also organises workshops and one day, I promise, I will join her!
Morton Nurseries Gill hails from Newark, Notts and travels all over the North with her wonderful collection of rare, unusual and quirky shrubs and small ornamental trees. Add in some choice perennials, some beautiful roses, grasses and whatever is looking it’s best at her amazing nursery and you have a gem of a stand. Gold medal winner at all the big shows.
Must Forge Michael is a blacksmith. He creates all sorts of weird and wonderful creations as well as signs, silhouettes and huge sculptures. He’ll be at the front of the show, on the lawns beside the Estate Office.
Northern Ark Nursery Once owned by the head gardener at Wallington Hall, the nursery was then sold on and has become a beautiful stand selling all sorts of amazing herbs and plants. The ladies also sell their own honey, created by their own bees, all naturally produced. Their Blossom honey is just delicious.
Respect Soaps Sandra’s house must smell amazing! Everything, and I mean everything she sells, she creates herself. Wonderful soaps, shampoos and body butters. I am a huge fan of her products and use them more or less on a daily basis. She also sells presentation packages for gifts to those you love.
S J Hostas Sam is a passionate “hosta man” and has such a great selection of quality and very healthy plants. He was new to me this year and I always buy a few “samples” just to see that the quality remains after they’ve been sold. I am not disappointed. Shady areas, sunny areas, half shady/half sunny? He has them all and they need little attention once they’re in your garden. I LOVE them!
Summerfield Plant Nursery Phil is based near York and has a wonderful plant nursery selling all sorts of wonderful plants, fruit trees, fruit bushes, vegetables, etc, but he mainly brings his collection of herbaceous treats to the fairs.
Village Pots NEW to us this year and what an impact Graham has made. Wonderful old terracotta pots, Yorkshire Pots and many other delights that he seeks out at car boot sales, on the internet and elsewhere. It’s a bit of a treasure trove for anyone who is addicted to terracotta! Ditch the plastic and buy real pots!
Willowdale Designs It’s not been the easiest year for Angie as sadly we’ve had wind at a couple of the fairs and she’s had real problems displaying her wonderful willow designs. I’m hoping I’ve got her a lovely safe sheltered spot for August so that you can see how clever she is. Willow designs for both inside and outside so check her out.
ADMISSION £5.00, card or cash.
Home made refreshments served all day (or until they sell out!) including delicious bacon and egg mini quiches, sausage rolls, fresh tray bakes and cakes. All baked/made by the Wombwell family.
The Priory will be open (additional charge, but well worth it)
40 acres of magical woods, gardens, lakeside walks and the plant fair to explore. Dogs on short leads please. This area of Coxwold is alive with wildlife so please respect the locals!
